ABOUT ME
Deirdre Lahiff, mezzo-soprano
Hey! I'm Deirdre! I am a mezzo-soprano (cross-trained in both classical and musical theatre), actor, voice teacher, and music director based in the NYC area. I grew up in New York's Hudson Valley surrounded by loving and supportive family, beautiful nature, and a strong love of music. I first started singing in my elementary school children's choir, and was instantly hooked after my teacher invited me to sit next to her on the organ bench to learn harmonies for the hymns. My interest in music grew from there, and soon I was taking voice and flute lessons and practicing lines for the Christmas concerts and Spring musicals. I chose to pursue music through a BA in Vocal Performance at Providence College (Go Friars!). I originally chose to study musical theatre, but as I progressed in my studies I felt an urge to switch to classical voice. I fed my voracious performing appetite with participation in operas, musicals, plays, and chamber choral ensembles and performed at venues such as Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. I finished my degree from my childhood bedroom when Covid-19 struck in Spring 2020, and as the world began to heal I started working as a music director and voice teacher for a small children's theatre company back in the Hudson Valley. After working with the company for a wonderful year, I made the decision to pursue my master's degree in Vocal Performance, Classical Voice at NYU Steinhardt. When I am not performing or practicing, you can find me searching out new museums, hiking, and snuggling with my rescue dog, Prince!
